In the market a lot has been talked on outsourcing of support processes like HR, IT and even the manufacturing.
One may be wondering as to why such outsourcing is done.
Some readymade answers could be
- Concentration on the core functionalities.
- Reducing the distraction due to efforts of maintenance of support processes.
- Getting rid of inventory hold up of hardware for support process like Information Technology
- Improving the choice of the vendors offering the better service
- Dodging the service cost escalations year on year etc.
One may wonder whether this phenomenon is based on market trend or it is full studied decision.
I tend to agree that it is full studied decision. The decision making process is highly customized and specific to each company or business enterprise. The factors like the nature and importance of process, costs ( one time and recurring ), skills ( scares and ever changing ), scenario building like before and after outsourcing and many more will play in deciding whether insourcing or outsourcing . This is one part of advisory to CEO/CIO / Decision makers of the organization.
