As the CIO, Technology head of your Organization, do you have issues in aligning Technology with Business?

Don’t be surprised…  Many CIOs are in the same boat…  Here is why…..

1) Technology itself –

Technology companies are coming up with many options in the market with multiple Digital Solutions addressing one or more problems on hardware portability, Software Solutions, Mobile based Applications etc. This is leading to confusion in the minds of end customers as to which solution is best for their issues and when it can be implemented.

2) External Pressures / Threats-

Due to above, I have seen multiple cases wherein the service providers or Technology providers approach the end users in the organization and try to create back pressures on CIOs to purchase of their product.

 3) Internal Pressures / Threats-

The confused and restless end users now follow all the formal and informal communication channels to get their new technology request fulfilled. Sometimes such requests are also being projected as the reason for the performance deterioration or non-fulfillment of the targets.

4) Budget Management –

On the other hand CIOs have budget limitations and also the guidelines of treating the end users based on their work priorities, while displaying non partial approach. IT Budgets are linked to Business plan of the Organization and as such follow the prefixed schedule. The time lines of budget schedule and that of Technology releases are different, leading to various conflicts…

Considering above, the logical and foolproof solution is to have Comprehensive IT strategy and IT Roadmaps across the organization. CIO needs to communicate such policy on upgrades of IT devices, Software with their time lines and educate end customers from time to time.

Does your organization have formal IT policy, Roadmaps in place?….
